Guitar Hero Live at Comic-Con

Guitar Hero is finally back! It has been too long. The series had a strong following in the mid 2000's, but the saturation of the genre's market muddled the quality of the game. I played Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock heavily, so I'm glad to see the series make its return.

One of the big changes in this new iteration is the change in controller format. Previously there were five multi-colored buttons in one row. Now they have added an extra button, on top of that, they have split the buttons into two rows of three. I was good enough in past Guitar Hero titles to play a handful of songs on expert, but this new format took some getting used to. I kept wanting to use my pinky finger which caused me to miss notes. I was subsequently humbled by the game, trying to play on advanced mode instead of starting on regular. After a few songs, I got the hang of it and really enjoyed it!

Another big change this time around is the entire visual aesthetic of the game. Instead of having a cartoon avatar to rock out with on stage, you are essentially a live band playing in front of a crowd of real people. I thought this was really cool! I liked seeing the changes in the crowd's facial expressions depending on how awesome or how badly I played. I feel like this live crowd will be well received.

One bad thing about the demo for me was the minuscule set list available. There were literally only 3 songs available to play. Not that it takes away from the whole game experience, but I would have enjoyed more songs. I played a Rock Band 4 demo that same day and it had about 30 songs to chose from.

Overall, I definitely think that this Guitar Hero will be fun. It's been a while since we've had one of these games. Although I am more looking forward to Rock Band because of the range of instruments.

This should be fun and I think many people will like it!
