E3 Microsoft Recap! Day 1 (June 15, 2015)

The first day of E3 2015 was pretty darn hype!

Microsoft was the first up. They had a pretty impressive showing to say the least.

The Microsoft press conference kicked off with a bang, showing Halo 5: Guardians gameplay. It looked very good. You will play as 2 fire-teams of Spartan. One team led by Spartan Locke, and one led by none other than the beloved Master Chief. Also Warzone looks legit! The 24 player story based multiplayer sounds ridiculously awesome!

The biggest announcement from Microsoft to me, was the announcement of full Xbox 360 backwards compatibility on Xbox One. This feature alone adds to the value of the Xbox One exponentially! Many people still have a vast collection of Xbox 360 games collecting dust. Also, Microsoft got a bit cheeky with the announcement. They said something along the lines of "You don't have to pay to play games you already own". Direct shot to Sony and it's Playstation Now service? I have to think so!

Microsoft unveiled their new "Elite" controller as well. I never really complain about the functionality or shape of the stock controllers. Except for the original Xbox Controller... (It was as big as my head!). I do think that there is a definite niche crowd for the functions and customizability of this new controller. The price turns me away from this even more. It is said to retail at $150! unless you are a pro COD player, this may not be worth it.

Fallout 4 got some more screen time. A nice new feature is the progressive approach to modding. Mods on the Xbox One version of Fallout 4 are transferable with the PC version and vice-versa.

Forza 6 had a good showing. They literally lowered a 2016 Ford GT from the ceiling, as well as having a direct descendant of Henry Ford himself there to talk about the game. The game literally looks beautiful every time it comes out. From the first Forza to now that is still the case.

The Hololens-Minecraft showing blew my socks off!! I was in disbelief! For the Microsoft press conference, this was the most exciting gameplay showing in my opinion! I'll let you see the spell that was cast over us!

Rainbow Six Siege looks to be a deep tactical team based shooter. The Rainbow 6 series has always had quality entries.
Ubisoft also unveiled gameplay of The Division, and it looked amazing! Every time I see something about it, it looks to have improved. It's another tactical team based shooter from Ubisoft. I have a soft spot for that genre ever since SOCOM captured my heart. Here is the gameplay trailer.

Another big piece of Microsoft news was the reveal of Gears of War 4! in the footage, there were two new protagonists. They seemed to be fighting new type of enemy. The game looks to take place in different setting as well. I don't know everything so I'll let you be the judge!

Rise of the Tomb Raider had an EPIC showing! Complete with death defying leaps, falling debris and a huge snow-capped mountain! I think that Crystal Dynamics has found the secret formula for successful Tomb Raider games.

Recore looked interesting. It gave me a Knack sort of feeling when I watched the trailer. Although I'm sure it will be much better than Knack, given that the people behind Metroid and Megaman are making it.

Rare made a nice move in creating a 30 game Rare classics collection. It includes games like Perfect Dark (One of my faves), Conker's Bad Fur Day (Another of my faves), Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, and Banjo Kazooie Nuts'N'Bolts. I feel like Goldeneye should have been included but I am satisfied with what was offered.

Dark Souls and Bloodborne developer, From Software, delivered some bitter-sweet news. Dark Souls III will be coming early 2016, but it will be the last in the series.

One game series that I have never played, Shenmue, was a cult classic as well as a huge hit. It never resurfaced after Shenmue 2. Through years of dedication and loyalty, gamers have created enough demand to get Shenmue 3 developed. The only thing, was that In order to get the game, they had to raise 2 million on Kickstarter in 31 days. Apparently that is not a problem at all! Within 6 hours, gamers around the world have already raised 1.7 million of the 2 million needed! It's safe to say that Shenmue 3 is happening!

Alright everyone that is the Microsoft recap. There is a lot of content to sift through for each press conference, So I'm going to have to either shorten future recaps to my favorites or just pick one press conference each day to recap. Thanks for reading!!

I'm out.
