Star Wars Battlefront

A long time ago... Actually about 11 years ago. A game called Star Wars Battlefront (2004) was released. The sequel, Battlefront 2, came out November of the next year. Both games were very fun but Battlefront 2 was a big improvement over the first. The third game, simply titled Star Wars Battlefront will be releasing November 17th of this year. It will be considered a reboot of the series, not a direct sequel.

I can not think of a reason the next installment was not released shortly after the first two games. This opinion coming from no prior research, as there are probably many good reasons. As far as I can remember the game was very fun. The single player portion was not as memorable as the multiplayer. It was better than the first game's campaign though. The multiplayer was very fun, you start as a normal clone or droid trooper. You gain the privilege to spawn as a Jedi Knight or Sith Lord, provided that you perform well enough.

As many already know, this upcoming Battlefront will be releasing before Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I think that DICE will hope to ride some of the hype from the movie to help fuel sales. The Game will focus on events in the prequel movies, episodes 4, 5, and 6. The game will have battles ranging from Hoth to Endor. There will be no space warfare, which has disappointed fans of earlier Star Wars titles. Space battles would have been an amazing part of this game, especially with the horse-power of this generation's systems. Piloting an X-Wing and dogfighting a TIE Fighter with countless other spacecraft would definitely be a popular game mode! Battlefield 4 has an aircraft only multiplayer playlist. I suspect that at least makes it into the game.

The one thing I'm hesitant or curious about is the special characters in multiplayer. What criteria will a player have to meet in order to spawn as a Jedi or Sith character? Also how will this affect the balance of online gameplay? At first thought, a Jedi would be unstoppable. Deflecting lasers, jumping long distances, and carving enemies into cutlets. Even though these questions arise, I feel confident in DICE's ability to deliver a quality Star Wars game. Hopefully they can avoid the slow, and buggy launches of the last 2 Battlefield games.

I've already pre-ordered the game. I've played the last 3 DICE shooters, and had a lot of fun with them. This will be another DICE game that I will play for a sizable chunk of time. I can feel it in my bones. (Apologies for the Star Trek Reference).

May the Force be with you all.
